One of the highlights of the R2k v6 car show last weekend was to attend an advanced premiere of Disney’s new movie Herbie: Fully Loaded at the Fiesta Drive-In in Carlsbad, NM. Disney and Volkswagen were on-hand to arrange a recreation of a classic photo that was used in the original Herbie advertisement.
Caliente was fortunate enough to be part of this photo shoot. The photo shoot is supposed to be used in the trailers of the new movie and will also be released on the DVD. VW has posted both the new and original photos on their website. Caliente is located on the 3rd row up from the bottom in between a yellow and blue (with a ski rack) new beetle. Herbie and his girlfriend Sally are located on the bottom row.
Caliente is available for autographs upon requests!

Caliente won 1st place in her category today at the R2k v6 show. Woo hoo!!
We arrived in Roswell at noon today and were able to get an early check-in at the hotel after stopping by Wienerschnitzel first of course!!! Normally cleaning up Caliente would be first on the list but it is so hot here that swimming bumped up to the number one spot. After a relaxing swim and a nap, we got Cali to her much needed bath and picked up our registration packet for the show. The goodie bag is outstanding this year. It includes a Herbie movie poster, Herbie antenna ball, VW Vert glow necklace, swiss-army like knife with the show info engraved on it, VW note pad, R2k coaster and a number of other misc. items. See photo below of the freebies. We are about to head out to the group dinner and glow parade. Stay tuned for more info and pictures!
It all started with one simple statement: “Reverse Engineered From UFOs.” Now, hundreds of Volkswagen New Beetles will converge for the sixth annual Roswell 2k New Beetle Car Show in Roswell, New Mexico. This national event draws in New Beetle owners from every corner of the U.S. – and maybe even a few other-worldly places too…
So we’re heading out early this morning in Caliente for our 2nd trip to Roswell.
Okay, I admit it… I’m on the leading edge of “Gen-X” generation and thus, I cut my teeth on late ’70s & ’80s rock. Among others, I have an unnatural love for the Canadian rock band Loverboy.
So I was totally blown away by Shawn Barrester’s tribute to Loverboy’s classic song, Working for the Weekend. This homemade video is better than half of the videos I ever saw on MTV during the ’80s. You’ll be rockin’ & rollin’ out of your chair laughing! Enjoy!!
In keeping with Rob’s efforts to offer more dolphin stuff here on 2Dolphins.com, Topper sent us a link to an interesting Animal Planet article, “Study: Dolphins Use Sponge as Tool.” In this article, researchers show that dolphins are among the very few non-human species known to be able learn to use tools. “Material culture,” or socially-acquired tool-use skills, has only been identified a few times in animals, most notably with primates like chimps and orangutans. Cool stuff!
When looking online for a good deal on a digital camera, you’ll find that a great many of the “best” prices seem to come from outfits in Brooklyn, New York. You might be surprised to see what the storefront addresses belonging to dozens of (shady) digital camera dealers in Brooklyn look like:
