Back-up Alert
Saturday, July 14, 2007
I recently read an MSN article stating that at least 2 children are killed and another 50 are hurt in car backover accidents each week. It’s a very sad article to read but contains a lot of valuable information about child safety. The article states that SUVs, pickups, and minivans being longer and taller contributes to the poor visibility behind those vehicles. The families of some of the children are urging automobile manufacturers to add safety warning sensors and rear cameras on all vehicles.
In the meantime, Joe Stirt offered an affordable alternative. He uses an $18.50 back-up alert device that he ordered from Harriet Carter. According to Joe, they work even better than advertised!

I agree that manufactors should just install them in cars. But those that you linked look good. We're in an apartment complex and I'm always worried about that. I might invest in them now.
Thanks for the safety tip.
How sad!! I have a big SUV and could never/would never drive it without my backup beepers. First, I'm 5'2" and second, I know I can't see behind me so why would I risk it?? Thanks so much for sharing this... it's definitely all about awareness!
Good post. I agree all manufacturers should install them. I think buick does.
