Traveling with Your Digital Camera
Tuesday, July 24, 2007
I have been thinking about our photography needs for when we do finally get the call to travel to Russia. Currently we have a Canon PowerShot SD550 Digital Elph camera that we are very happy with, in fact it is our second Canon Elph camera. It takes excellent pictures and it is so small that you don't mind taking it everywhere with you.
We have a small desktop tripod but I have been thinking about getting one of the Joby Gorillapods to take with us. They look like they would be perfect to use anywhere, especially in areas where you don't have a flat surface for a desktop tripod.
Have any of you used a Gorillapod or any other unconventional tripod-like items? If so, I'd love to hear feedback on what you've used and what you liked/didn't like about it.

That is the neatest little contraption!!! I have a little mini-pod but it's the normal kind, I would think this little guy would be great to have! I would love to find a nice compact, yet expandable, tripod to put our video camera on but I'm afraid anything I find will be too bulky. I'll be watching your post to see if you get any feedback!

P.S. Thank you for your email about google reader. I did have it wrong - needed to click updated instead of view all. I'm so sorry I forgot to email you back!
Becky - glad to hear things worked out for you with Google Reader. Maybe someone will post a tripod solution here that will work for both of us.
I actually have this and LOVE IT!!!!
I bought the original one before they came out with their larger models.
I HIGHLY recommend it. I've even used it with my camcorder which weights almost a pound. But I've been thinking about getting the larger model for it.
But for our digital camera it works perfectly. It's far more usable than a regular tripod.
And yes I've even done just like what they say on their site and wrapped it around a tree branch and it totally locks the camera steady.

I have not but it looks pretty cool. We have an SLR that is quite bulky but takes excellent pictures, so I'll likely have to invest in a point and shoot for our trips.
I don't have one, but Frank and I were both just saying we'd like to get one so we can put our camera on the automatic timer to take pictures so one of us doesn't have to be behind it all the time. We were thinking it'd be nice to have for holidays, too. Like when everyone is opening gifts...
Never seen that. But I love it. And they are so affordable too. I'll be looking into that one when we get closer.
