I-171H Extension
Wednesday, August 8, 2007
As I said in my previous post, our I-171H form expires October 31st. We finally got an answer from the USCIS yesterday that we can go ahead and apply for the extension now. Their rule is that you can't apply more than 90 days before expiration.
I have all our paperwork gathered and ready to send tomorrow. I also wanted to let you know that one of the things I discovered while filling out an updated I-600A form is that your updated home study can't be more than 6 months old from the date you submit the new form. Something to keep in mind. Our updated home study will be 6 months old on September 19th so I would have had to do another home study update if I had waited until then to apply for the extension.
Luckily the USCIS gives you one free extension to go along with that one free biometric fingerprinting we did a couple of months ago so the only cost we are out on this one is postage. Woo hoo!

Here's to hoping this is the LAST extension you need! What a pain to have to update everything over and over again. If I have to get my medical updated more than one more time I may go a bit batty. :-) That was like pulling teeth!
Oh the updates - we haven't had to start them yet, but I feel them coming on. I am always afraid I'll do something wrong or wait too long and mess everything up. I think our approval expires before our fingerprints so I guess we just fill out the form - who knows!! I'll save that for later. I hope this your last time also!!
So nice that it's free for the first extension now. (Uh, I meant the only extension you'll ever need)
Good to know about the home study being 6 months current and that you can apply 90 days in advance. Thanks
