Watching the Mailbox

Thanks for all of your supportive comments on my last post!
We heard from our agency today that our dossier has been translated and will be registered on Monday in the Moscow region. They’re still estimating that we’ll travel in the first part of December.
They keep asking us about our I-171H extension and reminding us that they won’t be able to process us any further after Trip 1 without it. Ugh... I FedEx’ed the additional paperwork they requested last week. I enclosed a letter stating how important it was to process it ASAP so our adoption would not be delayed.
I had hopes that they would process it immediately and that we would have the letter by now. Since it was Veterans’ Day, there was no mail on Monday so I just knew it would be there yeterday but it wasn’t. So, today for sure, it was going to be there, right? Nope.
I’ve sent emails to the generic Oklahoma address and the people at the 800 number for CIS don’t even know what a I-171H is for. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can get this paperwork processed quickly or know how to get in touch directly with someone at the Oklahoma CIS office?

I'm sorry to say that I've got no information for you. The Atlanta office (where we were processed) was incredibly slow and they would not allow families to contact them directly. So for us, it was a waiting game. But hopefully your will come very soon!!!
Dede, we had great luck getting response from CIS Memphis so too bad it's not with them.
You could ask your U.S. House Rep or Senator to check on it for you. I'm on one adoption listserv where people say they have done that with good results. That's why we elect these people - to serve us. Good Luck!

First of December-that is awesome!! I hope things move quickly for you all!
I have a book that has alot of CIS numbers in it. I also have a number for CIS at home. You have to go through many many prompts but you can finally speak to a person-I called this number just 2 weeks ago. The lady seemed sympathetic towards adoption, too. I'm out of town right now but can send it to you this weekend! If I forget, please feel free to send an email and remind me.
Dede, We contacted our congressman as we couldn't get any help on the phone. It still took over 12 weeks, but at least we knew what was going on. I would try to contact him and explain, he may be able to help out. Hope it comes soon.
I can't believe it might be as soon as the first week of December! How exciting! I'm sorry about the CIS mess. It's never easy to get a hold of someone there, but I have heard of a lot of people contacting their congressman.
It sounds like you are really moving now. Sorry about USCIS. Does your homestudy agency have a contact? Ours did and that helped get all of our stuff through (but in San Francisco).
I agree with the poster above. It's time to contact your Congressperson or Senator and see what they can do.
Just try everything and everybody.
You don't have to be mean or anything but just keep trying every possible avenue.
Ours went to the OK office and we had to update the home study that was worded wrong. It was sent in around March 9th and we received our approved I-171H on April 7th. You can call them but I'd also tell you to try not to stress. If you travel the first part of December chances are you'll have it by the time you return.
Good luck.
