Liam’s First Trip to the E.R.
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Did I ever mention that on the Russian database that they had listed Liam’s nature as "mobile"? Well, they couldn’t have picked a more perfect description for him. That boy will not sit still for more than 10 seconds at a time; he likes to "go, go, go" (as he says). On top of being mobile, he’s also a climber and that’s just not a good combo for Momma. I am constantly worried that he is going to fall and hurt himself (even moreso than the bumps & bruises he collects on a regular basis). Everyone tells me to quit worrying that he is just a boy and that’s what boys do.
Well last night he was running around climbing on things and managed to fall just right so that he hit his arm on the corner of the closet door and it cut a nasty gash into his arm. I was terrified at the sight of his blood (usually I just see him rubbing a bump and there’s no blood involved). After we got his arm cleaned up enough to see how bad the cut was we decided that it might be deep enough for stitches so we bandaged him up and took him to the E.R.
We arrived at the E.R. at approximately 8:00 p.m. and about 3 1/2 hours later he was finally called to the back and they looked at the cut. By then the blood had dried and the wound was sealing up so they decided that he probably did’nt need stitches so they put some ointment on it and sent us home. Liam tore the bandage off before we got home and then fell sound asleep. Today he hardly noticed that he had an injury. I’ll just never get used to this. I’ve saved his first E.R. bracelet which I’m guessing will be just one of many in the years to come... :::sigh:::

Oh Dede...I know exactly how you feel! Luca was the same way and our first trip to the ER was after he'd been home only 4.5 months. He was not as lucky as Liam and needed a plastic surgeon to "sew" up his nose! He could have cared less the next day - I on the other hand aged about 10 years! I fear another boy in the house may throw me over the edge!
Glad Liam is OK! Don't you just want to bubble wrap them?!
Yep, he's a boy alright. Our first accident was two weeks after we were home and involved a huge gash on his forehead and was followed two weeks later by a nice black eye.
Our pediatrician said as long as he isn't knocked unconscious he should be fine ;) Luckily no ER trips for us (yet).
Boys will be boys!! I've been to the ER so many times with Troy I fully expect to go with D also!! Glad he his okay!! Go climber go!!
Blaine had his first stitches when he was 2. He split his eyebrow open on a book shelf while chasing bubbles. I remember having that same thought that this will be the first of many trips to the ER. He's almost 6 and we haven't been back yet! Hang in there - They really are pretty durable!
Pain heals, Chicks dig scars
Hmm...I forgot my password for my cute orange blogger symbol! So I shall improvise.

3 hours?! You get no Employee front of the line pass? I am glad it is ok though! Also, since everyone else is sharing their scary stories, I must share mine also ;) When Christopher was 2 he fell at Daycare and hit his mouth on a table. His teeth went through...yes THROUGH his bottom lip. He has an adorable scar now though. Also, about a year ago Allyson hit her nose on the entertainment center and broke it. She is the model in the family and we were quite frightened that her career was over before it began. she healed quite nicely though and is still a Diva.
I'm glad Liam is okay. That must have been scary to take him to the ER! I hope he is healing well!
Poor baby! Glad it doesn't seem to be bothering him much.
He sounds like my little Monkey. Chipmunk has never had a visit to the ER (in more than 4 years home). But the Monkey hadn't been home two months before his first visit (with several others since then).
Oh Dede! I can relate to that worry. I have two boys of my own, and coming from a family of two girls...I had no idea of the bumps and bruises in store for me. My oldest likes to ride down a hill standing on the seat of his bike! Yikes! Now they are old enough to tell me "Mom, I'm fine, it's okay". But when they were little like Beth said, "I wanted to bubble wrap them!"
Good for you for going to the ER anyway! Owen broke his leg just 6 weeks after coming home and was in a body cast for 5 weeks so I am incredibly conscious and a bit overprotective of his climbing, especially at the park where he can fall so far down off of the playground equipment! He still falls all the time on the hardwood floor (where he broke his leg), but his bones are stronger now, and he has gotten much better at catching himself! Welcome to the world of being the mothers of boys, huh?!? :)
