First Halloween
Saturday, November 1, 2008
Liam had a great time monkeying around on his first Halloween. He loved wearing the costume even though it was kind of heavy for our 70+ temp. When I first pulled his costume out of the closet, he got so excited and said "Halloween" and couldn’t wait to get in it. The whole time I was dressing him, he was saying "I’m excited."
The Halloween activities were centered more around jumpers and riding choo-choo trains than trick-or-treating but he did manage to get a few goodies. We would practice the whole trick-or-treat thing on the way up to a door but by the time they opened the door and he saw them, the excitement of the candy overtook him and he would forget his lines.
There was a tearful ending to the evening’s festivities; which is always a sign that he had a great time and didn’t want it to end.

For many of those of you who read this blog, this was probably your first Halloween as a parent too; was it everything you thought it would be? Did you learn things that will make next year go smoother?

He is totally adorable in that costume!
Very cute! I love his costume and am glad to hear he had a good time! S seemed to enjoy his costume and had fun getting goodies! It was a fun night!
It was my son's first Halloween as a trick or treater too. He was "Master Yoda" from star wars. We only made it to 5 houses. The first one he got scared and ran away when they opened the door. The next house he tried to go into...oops, we had a little bit of tears trying to explain why he couldn't just go into the house. The next few went smoothly, but the last house was a disaster. Trying to get a good picture of my son as he got tangled in some spider webs, I managed to trip over a solar light and knock the top off of it. I spent 5 minutes trying to fix it and then we were so embrassed we wanted to just get away from that house, but my son didn't understand why. So he had a meltdown. We had to take him home. Once we got back we had a great time passing out candy to other trick or teaters, carving pumpkins and playing in the back yard, so all around it was a really good night. I did learn that if we are embrassed as parents, it is best to let it go and try not to rush a two year old that doesn't understand embrassement. We also want to balance that with the fact that it is important to follow your parents lead when they need you to. Also a hard thing to teach a 2 year old. Next year we'll see if we can do better on that one.
Wow! That is seriously the cutest monkey. How fun!!
What an adorable costume. I'm glad Liam had so much fun. As you will see in our photos, we had tears at the end as well. I think it is just the excitement and exhaustion of the entire night. I don't know that it ever gets easier or smoother. Welcome to parenthood where anything can and will happen (especially when least expected). Ha.
What a cute monkey. Glad he was so excited for his first Halloween.
Hi,
Liam is adorable. I found you through Janie, my neighbors have just started the adoption process and I'd like to learn as much as I can to celebrate their joy. I'm looking forward to reading about your experience.
You can tell he is a sweetie pie! He looks so proud of his costume with that big smile.
Joy
What an adorable monkey!! It's so neat to be able to experience and share these firsts!
