Liam's Room

Sunday, January 13, 2008

We finally finished up Liam’s room so it is all ready for him. We had things semi in order and then after the shower we had to start the clean-up all over again. As promised, here are some photos of the room.

Here is a picture showing the jungle bedding we received at the shower and the hanging storage thingy for his stuffed animals. Also note the surfing monkey clock above the bed. I didn’t know that the bottom legs and surfboard moved separately when I bought it. I love that clock!

The next 2 pictures show off his wall murals. Rob put together the little table and chairs set we bought for him about a year ago at Ikea. We still need to paint them. The diaper cake from the shower is on the table and you can also see a little bit of his tri-cycle he got at the shower.

I also painted his name on the license plate of the jeep.

Here is his cubicle storage shelves. The top left cube is the beginning of his Dr. Seuss book collection. The top right cube is more our adoption / parenting / Russia book collection. The colored cubes contain all sorts of smaller toys such as balls, cars, etc.

The last picture is of a shelf that Rob re-painted and glued on jungle animals. The teddy bear is from a door prize that I won at a parenting class we attended at the beginning of our journey in 2006. The Russian onion dome cut-outs are compliments of my hair dresser (they were part of a nail polish display).

That’s about it for the room. The rest of the other wall is just closet doors. Let me know what you think! I’m off to get these printed to take to court with us.

Monkey Island is Complete

Thursday, May 17, 2007

We finally finished up our second mural for LR's room. This one took up a lot more wall space so it took us longer than expected. We had to do 2-3 coats on some of the colors to cover the orange. We also did more custom paint mixing and that slowed things down bit. Anyway, here is Monkey Island (you might recognize the monkey from a previous post).

Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

Monkey Business

Sunday, May 6, 2007

As promised a few posts back, here is a picture of the mural that we are working on now. I was hoping to have it finished by this weekend but the wait time for the paint drying has slowed things down. Anyway, here is a picture of it in its current state.

Murals are Addictive

Monday, April 30, 2007

We had so much fun painting the last mural for LR's room that we decided to do another wall. I don't possess much of an art skill but I am having a lot fun doing these. It is quite therapuetic and makes me feel like we are at least accomplishing something while waiting on our agency to get their accreditation.

Also FRUA is still down so what else are we going to do? ;-)

Stay tuned for pictures of the new wall!

Welcome to the Jungle

Saturday, April 21, 2007

Continuing on with the jungle theme we had picked for LR's room, we decided to get adventurous and paint a mural.   Keep in mind that we’re not particularly crafty or artistic, so this was a bold move for us.

We found a safari jeep jungle-themed picture at Murals for Kids that we both liked and projected it on the wall for the mural.   For the past week we’ve been painting it and finally finished it tonight.

You can click each of the thumbnails below to see a larger version of each image.   Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Surf Monkey

Saturday, August 12, 2006

We found this monkey themed bedding collection at Target today. We purchased everything in the collection except the quilt and string lights. It ties in with our jungle animal theme and my love of all things beachy (surf, sand, water, etc.). We realize that we are moving more towards a boy's decor so if our child ends up being a girl, we may have to rethink this whole monkey business.

Adding to the Jungle

Saturday, July 29, 2006

We picked up 4 plush wild animals at Kohl's to add to the jungle room. Kohl's and Animal Planet teamed up as part of the "Kohl's Cares for Kids" program. Kohl's stores across the country are featuring these for $5 each with 100 percent of the net profits benefiting children's health and educational opportunities nationwide.

Room Makeover

Sunday, June 11, 2006

We have decided to go with a jungle theme for our child's room. It all started when I saw the fabric in the photo below and we decided to make a wall hanging out of it. The room is currently a bright orange color that we think will work well for a child's room and fit in well with the jungle theme. Click here to see what the room currently looks like. Even though we can't get too crazy about the decorating yet until we know the sex and age of our child, at least we have something to work with.
